So, I had this project where I needed to convert millimeters to inches. Specifically, I had a measurement of 162 mm that I needed to know in inches. It’s not something I do every day, so I had to figure it out.
Figuring Out the Conversion
First, I grabbed my phone and used Google. I simply typed in “mm to inches” and got the conversion factor. I remembered that one inch is equal to 25.4 millimeters. I could have just done the calculation right then and there, but I wanted to make sure I understood it properly and I like to document these things, maybe I need to use them somewhere else at a later date.
Doing the Math
So, armed with the knowledge that 1 inch = 25.4 mm, I set up the conversion:
- Start with the value in millimeters: 162 mm
- Divide by the conversion factor: 162 mm / 25.4 mm/inch
I grabbed my calculator (the one on my phone, actually) and punched in the numbers.
The Result
The calculation gave me approximately 6.377952755905512. And I don’t need it that precise and detailed, so normally two decimals are okay with me, so, 162 mm is roughly 6.38 inches. This number is what I’m using for my project, and it’s accurate enough, good for me!
