DIY Hexagon Light Design: Easy Projects for Your Home!

Okay, let’s talk about this hexagon light project I did. I saw these cool hexagon lights online and thought, “I can totally make that!” So I started by sketching out a rough idea on a piece of paper. Just some basic shapes, you know? I wasn’t really sure about the exact dimensions or anything, just wanted to get the general concept down.

Then I started to think about materials. I had some scrap wood lying around the garage, mostly plywood and some pine boards, I believe. I figured I could use those. I also needed some LED light strips, of course. I went to the local hardware store and grabbed a roll of them. It was not too expensive, so that was good.

Next, I measured and cut the wood. This was probably the hardest part. I used a circular saw to cut out the hexagon shapes. I’m not gonna lie, it wasn’t perfect. Some of the edges were a little wonky, but I tried my best to sand them down smooth. It took a while, but I eventually got six identical hexagon pieces. And then I used some wood glue to stick them together. I had to clamp them down overnight to make sure they were secure.

After that, it was time to add the lights. I took those LED strips and carefully stuck them along the inside edges of the hexagon frame. I made sure to trim the excess so it all fit nice and snug. Then, I connected the lights to a power source. I’m not an electrician, but I watched a few YouTube videos about it. I used a simple power adapter from an old electronic device. It seemed to work fine. I just plugged it in, and boom, the lights turned on!

A Few Details on the Build:

  • Wood: Mostly scrap plywood and some pine boards, maybe oak?
  • Lights: One roll of LED light strips from the hardware store.
  • Tools: Circular saw, sandpaper, wood glue, clamps.
  • Power: A repurposed power adapter.

Finally, I mounted the whole thing on my wall. I used some picture hanging hooks and wire. It took some adjusting to get it level, but it looked pretty sweet when it was done. The hexagon shape really added a modern touch to the room, and the lights were bright and colorful. I was pretty proud of myself, to be honest.

It wasn’t a super complicated project, but it was definitely a fun one. And it’s way cheaper than buying those fancy hexagon lights online. If you’re looking for a cool DIY project, I’d definitely recommend giving this a try. You can customize it however you want, use different colors, different shapes, whatever. It’s all up to you! Just remember to be careful with the tools, and maybe wear some safety glasses. I might have skipped that part a few times… Oops. Anyways, hope you guys liked it! It is my pleasure to share it with you.
