Okay, here’s my blog post about my “magsafe tripod” experience:
So, I’ve been wanting to get a little more serious with my phone photography, and that meant ditching the shaky handheld shots. I needed a tripod, but I also love the convenience of MagSafe. I thought, “Wouldn’t it be cool if there was a MagSafe tripod?” It seemed like such an obvious thing, so I dove in.
First, I scoured the usual online shops. I mean everywhere. I found plenty of regular phone tripods, some with those clamp-style holders, but very few MagSafe options, and some with poor quality.
Then it hit me – why not just combine a MagSafe charger with a regular tripod? I already had a decent, small, foldable tripod I used for my point-and-shoot camera. It had the standard screw mount. All I needed was a way to connect the MagSafe.
I grabbed a cheap MagSafe car mount from a local store. I made sure it had a strong magnet – that was key! I wanted my phone to feel secure, not like it was about to take a nosedive onto the concrete.
Next up, the tricky part: connecting the car mount to the tripod. The car mount had this ball-joint thing for adjusting the angle. I unscrewed the ball joint. And then, I found the screw mount. I screwed it onto the tripod.
I carefully placed my phone on the MagSafe mount… and it worked! It held surprisingly well. I could rotate my phone for portrait or landscape shots, no problem. The magnet was strong enough that I wasn’t worried about it falling off, even when I tilted the tripod head.
- Step 1: Find a small, portable tripod.
- Step 2: Get a good-quality MagSafe car mount (strong magnet is crucial!).
- Step 3: Remove any unnecessary parts from the car mount.
- Step 4: Securely attach screw mount from car mount to the tripod.
- Step 5: Test it out! Make sure your phone feels secure.
It’s not the prettiest solution, maybe, but it’s functional and it was cheap! I’ve been using it for a few weeks now, mostly for taking photos of my plants (don’t judge) and some timelapses of the clouds. It’s super convenient to just snap my phone on and off.
It’s way better than those clunky clamp tripods, and it folds up small enough to fit in my bag. A total win in my book!
