So, I stumbled upon this “flux black photo” thing and figured, why not give it a shot? I’m always up for messing around with photos, and this seemed like a neat trick.

Getting Started

First things first, I needed a photo. I grabbed a random picture from my phone – a shot of my cat looking particularly grumpy (as usual). Then, I had to find an app that could do this “flux black” effect. I think I just searched for “black and white photo editor” or something like that in the app store, and a bunch of options popped up.

The Process

I picked one of the apps – can’t even remember the name now, to be honest – and loaded up my cat photo.

The interface was pretty straightforward.

There were a lot of filters, as usual, but I found a section for black and white effects.

  • I played around with a few of the black and white filters first, just to see what they looked like.
  • Some were too bright, some were too dark, you know the drill.
  • Then I found one that seemed like a good starting point – it made the photo black and white, but not too intense.

Now for the “flux” part. I honestly wasn’t sure what that meant at first, but I started fiddling with the other settings in the app.
There were sliders for things like contrast, brightness, shadows, and highlights.

I cranked up the contrast, which made the dark parts of the photo REALLY dark and the light parts REALLY light.

Then I messed with the shadows and highlights. I pushed the shadows all the way down, making them super black, and boosted the highlights a bit to make the brighter areas pop.

It started to look pretty cool – the cat’s fur was almost completely black, and his eyes were these bright, glowing spots.

The Final Touches

I kept tweaking the settings until I got the look I wanted. It was a lot of trial and error, just moving the sliders back and forth until it felt right.
The key was getting that super high contrast, with really deep blacks and bright highlights.

Once I was happy with it, I saved the photo.

The app had options to share it directly to other place, but I just saved it to my phone.

It’s a neat effect, I might try it with some other photos later. Maybe a landscape or something, see how that turns out.
