So, I’ve been meaning to get back into reading, you know? Like, really reading, not just scrolling through endless feeds. I figured, summer’s almost over, might as well squeeze in one last good book before the pumpkin spice madness takes over. That’s how I started this whole “one last summer book” thing.
Picking the Book
First things first, I had to choose a book. I spent a good hour just browsing online, looking at different genres and reading reviews. It was kinda overwhelming, to be honest! So many options, so little time. Finally went to a physical store.
I decided to go with something light and fun, nothing too heavy or depressing. Ended up picking a mystery novel. It’s not usually my go-to, but I was feeling adventurous. Grabed the book, ready to go.
The Reading Process (aka My Struggle)
- Day 1: I was super pumped. Made myself a cup of iced tea, found a comfy spot on the couch, and dove in. Made it through like, three chapters before my phone buzzed. And that was it. Down the rabbit hole of social media I went.
- Day 2: Okay, this time I was serious. Phone on silent, tea refilled, back on the couch. Got through a good chunk of the book, maybe a quarter of it? Started to get into the story, which was cool. Then, the dog started barking… another interruption.
- Day 3: Realized reading on the couch was a bad idea. Too many distractions. Went to the park, found a nice quiet bench under a tree. It was perfect! The weather was great, the birds were chirping, and I actually got some serious reading done. Finished half the book!
- Day 4: Back to the park. This time, brought a blanket and some snacks. I was in the zone! The mystery was really picking up, and I couldn’t put the book down.
- Day 5: Finished it! Stayed up late to read the last few chapters. It was a pretty good book, not the best I’ve ever read, but definitely enjoyable.
The Aftermath
So, yeah, I did it! One last summer book, conquered. It felt pretty good to disconnect from technology for a bit and just get lost in a story. Might even try to make this a regular thing, even after summer’s officially over. Who knows, maybe I’ll become a full-blown bookworm. Or maybe not. We’ll see!
