Okay, so I finally tackled that mountain of old VHS tapes sitting in my attic. You know, the ones filled with precious family memories – birthdays, vacations, that embarrassing school play you thought no one recorded. I didn’t want to lose those, so I decided to get them transferred to DVDs. I’d heard Costco did this, so I figured I’d give it a shot.
Getting Started
First, I gathered all my tapes. Man, it was a trip down memory lane just finding them all! I had them stashed in various boxes and bins. I made sure to label each one clearly with a simple description of what was on it (like “Sarah’s 5th Birthday” or “Hawaii Trip ’98”). This is super important so you know what your getting on your dvd.
Dropping Off at Costco
Next, I headed to my local Costco. I went straight to the photo center – that’s where they handle the video transfer stuff. I grabbed one of their order forms. It was pretty straightforward, asking for my contact info, the number of tapes, and any special instructions.
I talked to the person at the counter and went over the tapes and confirmed the price and they gave me a claim ticket. Pretty Easy.
The Waiting Game
Now, the hardest part: waiting! It took longer then they originally told me. I think it was close to 4 weeks total. They said it could take a few weeks, depending on how busy they were. I just had to be patient, which isn’t exactly my strong suit, haha!
Picking Up My DVDs
Finally, I got the call – my DVDs were ready! I rushed back to Costco, grabbed my claim ticket, and picked them up. They came in these nice, simple cases, each labeled according to what I’d written on the original tapes.
Watching the Memories
The best part, of course, was watching the DVDs. It was so fun to relive those old memories! The quality was surprisingly good, considering how old the tapes were. Sure, it wasn’t HD or anything, but it was perfectly watchable, and it was so much better than having those tapes just collecting dust.
Overall Thoughts
Overall, I’m really happy I did this. It was a bit of an investment, but totally worth it to preserve those memories. If you’ve got a pile of old VHS tapes, I’d definitely recommend checking out Costco’s transfer service. Just be prepared to wait a bit, and make sure you label everything clearly!
