Okay, so the other day I sat down to watch a movie on my LG TV, and out of nowhere, it started narrating everything. Like, everything – “A man walks down a dimly lit street,” or “The woman raises her eyebrow suspiciously.” It was super annoying and totally killed the vibe. I thought maybe I accidentally hit a button on the remote, but I couldn’t figure out which one.
So, I grabbed the remote and started poking around the settings. I went through every menu I could find – picture, sound, accessibility, everything. Nothing seemed to be related to this weird narration.
Digging Deeper
I was getting a little frustrated, so, I paused the movie and did what anyone in the 21st century does: I googled it. I typed in something like “LG TV narrating everything” and, boom, tons of people with the same problem.
It turns out, it’s a feature called “Audio Description” or sometimes “Video Description,” and it’s meant for people with visual impairments. Makes sense, but I definitely didn’t need it.
Most of the forum posts and articles I found said the setting was buried somewhere in the accessibility menu. So I went back to the TV settings, navigated to Accessibility, and… still couldn’t find it. This is where things got a little tricky, because the menus can be different depending on your specific LG TV model and the software version it’s running.
The Solution (Finally!)
After some more digging around online, I found a post that mentioned a shortcut on the remote. I’ve tried everything! I pressed the mute button three times quickly. Other places suggested a different way, I held the settings button for a few seconds. Then a menu poped up. I saw an accessibility and then Bingo! An “Audio Description” option! I clicked on that, turned it off, and finally, the narration stopped.
- First thing to do is to find a menu.
- Try going to Settings then to Accessibility and search Audio Description option.
- Second, the short cut.
- Try pressing the mute button rapidly for three times.
- Or press and hold settings button for a few seconds.
- Then find the audio description and click to turn it off.
It was such a relief. Honestly, it took me a good 20 minutes of fiddling around to figure it out, but it’s fixed now. Hopefully, this helps someone else who’s dealing with the same annoying issue!
