Okay, so I finally tackled that mountain of old VHS tapes gathering dust in the attic. You know, the ones filled with embarrassing family moments and questionable fashion choices from the 90s? I decided it was time to bring them into the digital age, and I heard Costco offered a decent conversion service. Here’s how the whole thing went down.
Gathering My Tapes and Getting to Costco
First things first, I dug out all those old tapes. Some were labeled, some weren’t – a real trip down memory lane just sorting through them! Then, I headed over to my local Costco. I wasn’t totally sure where to go, so I wandered around a bit until I spotted the photo center. That seemed like the logical place.
Figuring Out the Process
At the photo center, I found a kiosk with info about the VHS to DVD service. It was pretty straightforward. Basically, you fill out an order form, indicating how many tapes you have and what you want to be done with them. I grabbed a form and started filling it out. They offer DVD or you can chose save on USB driver, pretty cooooool.
Dropping Off My Tapes
Once I had the form all filled out, I handed it over to the person at the counter, along with my box of precious memories. They gave me a receipt with an estimated pickup date, which was about two weeks out. It felt a little weird handing over those tapes, like entrusting a part of my past to someone else, but I figured Costco knew what they were doing.
The Waiting Game is the Hardest
Two weeks is just the begining , the wait is about 3-4weeks,you will receive the email from costco, and just go pick up during their opening hour.
Picking Up My DVDs
Finally, the day arrived! I went back to Costco, receipt in hand, and picked up my newly minted DVDs. They were all neatly packaged, and I was pretty excited to see how they turned out.
Checking Out the Results
Back home, I popped a DVD into the player, and there it was – my family history, now in glorious digital format! The quality was surprisingly good, considering the age of the tapes. Sure, there were some fuzzy moments, but overall, I was really happy with how it all turned out. Now I can easily share these memories with the rest of the family, and those old VHS tapes can finally rest in peace.
