Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get a decent phone mount for my car for ages. My old one was a flimsy piece of junk that kept dropping my phone. So, I finally decided to make my own – a simple phone mount clip. Here’s how it went down:
Figuring Out the Design
First, I grabbed a piece of paper and a pen and started sketching. I wanted something super basic – just a clip that would securely hold my phone to the air vent in my car. No fancy swivels or anything, just a solid grip.
Gathering the Materials
I dug around in my toolbox and found some sturdy plastic – an old, thick plastic container lid would do the trick. I also needed:
- A strong spring – I salvaged one from an old binder clip.
- Some heavy-duty glue.
- A hacksaw or something similar to cut the plastic.
- Sandpaper.
Cutting and Shaping
I carefully traced my phone’s shape onto the plastic lid and added extra space for the clip mechanism. Then, I used the hacksaw to cut out two identical pieces – the front and back of the clip. It was a bit rough, but that’s what sandpaper is for!
Sanding and Smoothing
I spent a good amount of time sanding down the edges of both plastic pieces. I wanted to make sure there were no sharp bits that could scratch my phone or the car vent. I also rounded the corners to make it look a little nicer.
Attaching the Spring
This was the trickiest part. I positioned the spring between the two plastic pieces, making sure it would provide enough tension to hold the phone securely. I applied a generous amount of glue to secure the spring and the two plastic pieces together. I clamped it all down with some heavy books and left it to dry overnight.
Testing It Out
The next day, the glue was completely dry. I tested the clip’s spring action, and it felt pretty strong! I carefully slid my phone into the clip, and it held it firmly in place. Success!
Mounting to the Vent
Now i just needed to attach it to air vent, then carefully clip it on, and that’s it!Then my phone mount onto the clip,it works!
It’s not the prettiest thing in the world, but it’s super functional and cost me practically nothing. Plus, I get to brag that I made it myself! If you’re tired of those cheap, store-bought phone mounts, I definitely recommend giving this a try. It’s a fun little project, and you’ll end up with a mount that actually works!
