So, the other day I was getting annoyed with my flat keyboard on my desk. It was hurting my wrists, you know? I needed to tilt it up somehow. I thought, “Hey, I bet I can make a stand!”
First, I scrounged around my apartment for materials. I’m not a fancy DIY-er, so I didn’t have, like, a workshop full of tools. I did find some old cardboard boxes from deliveries, though. That seemed promising.
Cardboard Experiment
- I cut out a few different shapes, trying to figure out what would work best. Triangles seemed logical, right?
- My first attempt was… flimsy. The keyboard just kind of slid off.
- I reinforced it with more cardboard, making it thicker. More stable, but still ugly.
- Then I tried folding the cardboard to create a lip, you know, to stop the keyboard from sliding. This worked!
I used a bunch of packing tape to hold it all together. It wasn’t pretty, but it did lift the keyboard to a better angle. Success! It improved my posture a lot.
The Refinement
It looks like my stand went through multiple upgrades over time, and to improve its aesthetic appeal, I replaced the old cardboard with some wooden blocks that I don’t know where they came from.
The wooden blocks provided a better base for placement, preventing the keyboard from slipping. I also added some non-slip pads at the bottom, making the entire stand even more stable.
I also tested a few different heights and angles. Eventually, I found a setup that felt really comfortable. It’s not perfect, but it’s a huge improvement!
So, yeah, that’s how I made a keyboard stand. It’s not winning any design awards, but it’s functional and it saved my wrists. Total cost: $0. Plus, I got to feel like a resourceful genius for a few minutes.
