Okay, so I stumbled upon this article about “low tech security measures” and thought, “Hey, I can do that!” I mean, who needs fancy gadgets when you’ve got good old-fashioned common sense, right? So, I decided to give some of these tips a whirl and see how they worked out for me.

My Little Experiment

First things first, I started with the basics. You know, the stuff your grandma probably told you about.

  • Locking Doors and Windows: Sounds simple, I know, but I actually went around and checked every single door and window in my house. I even jiggled the handles a bit to make sure they were really secure. Turns out, my back door wasn’t latching properly! Fixed that right up.
  • Keeping Valuables Out of Sight: I’m not gonna lie, I’m a bit messy. I tend to leave stuff lying around. So, I made a conscious effort to put things away. Laptop? In the drawer. Jewelry? In the box. It actually made my place look a lot tidier, too!
  • Trimming the Bushes: Okay, this one felt a little silly, but the article said overgrown bushes can provide hiding spots for, you know, bad guys. So, I grabbed my shears (which I barely knew how to use) and hacked away at the greenery around my house. My arms were sore the next day, but hey, at least my house looks less like a jungle now.
  • Getting to know Neighbors: I am akward, so I start to greet them and it turns out, they’re pretty nice. We even exchanged numbers, just in case.

I’ve been sticking to these “low tech” habits, It’s not rocket science, but it definitely makes me feel a bit more secure, plus, my house is cleaner, and my bushes are… well, they’re shorter. I have done a bit of exercise. All in all, not a bad experiment!
