Okay, so I ran into this little hiccup with my Canon Pixma TR8620a printer the other day – the dreaded “low ink” warning. We’ve all been there, right? I figured, “No problem, I’ll just swap out the cartridges.” Famous last words, huh?
Figuring Out the Ink Situation
First things first, I needed to figure out exactly which cartridges were low. My printer has individual cartridges for each color, which I really like because you only replace what you actually need. I popped open the printer cover and the print head carrier moved to the replacement position automatically. Nice!
The printer’s display conveniently showed me which colors were running low, so I didn’t even have to guess.
Getting My Hands on New Ink
I usually order ink refills and get it to my door.
The Actual Replacement Process
Once I get my new ink cartridges, it was time for the swap. I make sure to keep the printer and opened the cover again. The print head carrier moved back to its position.
- I gently pressed the tab on the empty ink cartridge and it clicked out super easily.
- I grabbed the new cartridge, peeled off that annoying orange plastic tape thingy.
- Then, I just carefully slotted the new cartridge into the same spot where the old one was. It clicked into place – you kinda feel it.
I repeated that process for any other low cartridges. Then I gently closed the cover of the printer.
The Aftermath
After closing the scanning unit cover, the printer whirred and buzzed for a bit – I guess it was doing some kind of alignment or something. And that was it! Back in business. I immediately printed a test page, just to make sure everything looked good, and the colors were vibrant and perfect. Success!
Seriously, it’s not rocket science. Anyone can do it. I just follow the printer instruction! Just remember take your time, don’t force anything.
