Taking the Anthropic Online Assessment? Read This First!

Okay, so I’ve been hearing a lot about Anthropic and their, like, super smart AI stuff. I figured I’d give their online assessment a shot, just to see what it’s all about. I wasn’t really applying for a job or anything, just curious, you know?

First thing I did was, obviously, find their website. It’s pretty sleek, all minimalist and modern-looking. I hunted around for the “Careers” section, and then looked for anything about assessments. They had a couple of different tracks, I think – one for engineering roles and one for, like, general research-y stuff. I went with the general one, just because.

The assessment itself was…interesting. It wasn’t like a typical coding test or anything. More like a series of open-ended questions. Some of them were pretty straightforward, like “Tell me about a time you had to solve a complex problem.” Stuff you’d expect in any kind of job application, I guess.

But then there were these other questions that were, like, way out there. They’d give you these hypothetical scenarios, and you had to explain how you’d approach them. Like, “Imagine you’re building an AI to help with scientific research. What are some potential ethical concerns?” My Brain starting working.

I spent a good chunk of time just, like, thinking through my answers. I didn’t want to just blurt out the first thing that came to mind. I wanted to sound at least somewhat intelligent, haha! I made sure to type everything out in a separate document first, so I could edit and, you know, make sure I wasn’t rambling too much.

  • First, the Scenario. I remember one question was about designing an AI to moderate online comments.
  • Then, the Problems. They asked about how to handle bias, and how to make sure the AI wasn’t censoring legitimate opinions.
  • My Solution (Attempt). I tried to come up with a multi-layered approach, combining automated filtering with human review. I’m not sure if it was the “right” answer, but it felt like a reasonable start.

After I was finally happy with my responses, I copied and pasted them into the online form. Hit submit. And…that was it! No immediate feedback, no score, no nothing. Just a “Thanks for your submission” message. I guess they have to, like, manually review everything.

Honestly, the whole process was kind of fun. It was a good mental workout, and it made me think about some pretty important issues in the AI world. Would I pass? No clue. But I definitely learned something, and that’s always a win, right?
