Okay, here’s my blog post about finding alternatives to air mattresses, written from my personal experience:
So, the other day, I faced a classic problem: guests coming over, and not enough proper beds. I usually just pulled out the old air mattress, but this time, I noticed a slow leak. Ugh. Rather than rush to buy another one, I decided to get creative and see what else I could use.
My Makeshift Bed Journey
First, I rummaged through my linen closet. I found a bunch of thick blankets and comforters. My initial thought was to just pile them up on the floor. It seemed…okay. Kinda lumpy, but better than nothing. I even tried layering them: a thick comforter on the bottom, then a folded blanket, then another comforter. Still, it felt a bit like sleeping on, well, a pile of blankets.
Then, I remembered my camping gear! I dug out my old sleeping bag. It’s one of those thick, rectangular ones, not a mummy bag. I laid that down first, and then put the blankets on top. This was a definite improvement! The sleeping bag provided a surprisingly smooth and even base.
- Sleeping Bag First: This acted like a surprisingly good base layer.
- Blanket Layers: Then I added the blankets to make them thicker.
Next, I considered cushions. I have a ton of throw pillows, and I even had a couple of those big, squishy floor cushions. I experimented with arranging these on top of the blanket/sleeping bag combo. The throw pillows were too small and shifted around, but the floor cushions actually worked pretty well! They added some extra height and a bit more “give,” making it feel more like a real mattress.
Finally, in the process i remebered i have a foldable camping cot,but it have not any cushion, I also decided to put my old sleeping bag on it.
It works pretty well.
In the end, I ended up with a surprisingly comfortable setup. I was going for a pratical * I realized that with a little creativity, you don’t always need an air mattress! It’s definitely not as perfect as a real bed, but for a night or two, it’s a totally workable * the most important thing I learned is I saved my money.
