Okay, so I saw this thing online about “free government iPads,” and I was like, “No way, that can’t be real.” But I was bored, and my old tablet was basically a paperweight, so I figured, why not look into it?
Digging Around
I started with a simple search. Just typed in “free government iPad” and, man, did I get a lot of junk. Lots of scammy-looking sites, and places promising “free” stuff if you just give them all your info. I’m not that gullible.
I kept digging, though. I started looking for more official-sounding stuff, like government websites ending in “.gov”. I also started adding words like “low income” and “assistance programs” to my searches, ’cause I figured it wouldn’t just be anyone getting a free iPad.
Finding Some Real Programs
After a while, I started finding some actual programs. It wasn’t exactly “free iPads for everyone,” but more like programs that help people get connected to the internet, and sometimes that included a tablet. I found out about a couple of things:
- The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP): I found this program that give you the tablet with a small co-pay.
- Lifeline Program: this is a program to make a discount for communication service.
Trying My Luck
So, I looked into the different programs. The Lifeline and the program looked like my best bet. And I checked out their website for all the rules and how to apply. It was a bit of a pain, lots of forms and proving I actually qualified, but hey, I had the time. I fill the application online.
The Waiting Game
After submit the application, the website show that I successfully submit the application and it needed 2 weeks to verify. So, I have to wait.
Success!
After two weeks, I received the email said I was approved and give a tablet with paying $10.1. It’s cool.
So, yeah, that’s my “free government iPad” story. It wasn’t exactly “free,” and it took some work, but I ended up with a new tablet. The best part. Don’t believe everything you see online, and always, always be careful with your personal information!
