Okay, here’s my blog post about setting up the Furbo Mini, written in a casual, first-person style:
So, I finally caved and got myself a Furbo Mini. I’d heard good things, and, well, I’m a sucker for anything that lets me spy on my dog, Winston, while I’m at work. Here’s how the whole setup went down, from unboxing to tossing treats.
Unboxing and First Impressions
The packaging was pretty slick. Inside, I found the Furbo Mini itself, a USB-C cable, and a power adapter. The camera is small and kinda cute, It’s all white, so it blends in pretty well with my bookshelf.
Getting it Powered Up
First things, First, I plugged in the power adapter and connected it to the Furbo Mini using the USB-C cable. A light on the front started blinking, which I figured meant it was doing… something. The instruction manual, that is very brief and clear, said I needed to wait for a green light, so, coffee time.
App Time
While I was waiting, I downloaded the Furbo app on my phone (they have it for both iPhone and Android, thankfully). I created an account, which was the usual email/password deal. Nothing too painful.
- Download Furbo app
- Create an account
Connecting to Wi-Fi
Once the Furbo’s light turned green, I opened the app and followed the setup instructions. It asked me to connect to my Wi-Fi network. I just selected my network, typed in the password, and boom – connected. Pretty standard stuff, really.
Pairing the Furbo
The app then guided me through pairing the camera. It basically involved holding my phone near the Furbo and letting them “talk” to each other. I think it uses Bluetooth for this part. There was a little progress bar, and then a satisfying “ding!” when it was all done.
The Fun Part: Testing it Out!
Finally, I could see through the Furbo’s camera! The picture quality was surprisingly good, even in low light. I tested the treat-tossing feature, and let me tell you, it’s hilarious. Winston was very confused at first, but he quickly figured out where the goodies were coming from.
And I received and saw some alerts that were set, like barking detection, dog activity alert, dog selfie alert, and person alert.
Final Thoughts
Honestly, the whole process was super easy. It probably took me less than 15 minutes from start to finish. Now I can check in on Winston whenever I want, and he gets a few extra treats throughout the day. Win-win!
