Alright, so I’ve been getting into beekeeping lately. It’s way more fun than I expected! But, let me tell you, getting stung is NOT fun. So, the first thing I did was start hunting for a good beekeeping suit. I mean, a really good one.
I started by looking at a bunch online. I got totally lost for choice!.
My Search Begins
I Spent so much time on the hunt for the right one! I looked at so many reviews, and after a long while, I decided on three that looked any good.
- One that was a full body suit– It looked super tough.
- A cheaper one that came with gloves – I did not mind spending more for better quality.
- And last one, made from a light material – Supposedly, it was more breathable on hot days.
Testing Time
I decided to order all three and test them out with my own hives. When they finally arrived, I suited up in the full-body, thick one first. This was the best quality one. Felt like I was going to the moon, haha! It was definitely sting-proof, but man, was it HOT. I was sweating buckets in minutes. I did not even get near the hive before I was overheating!
Next, I tried the cheap-looking one. I had a bad feeling about this one. It was easy to put on, I will give it that. But I bent over, and the suit just ripped on the seam, so its protection was clearly lacking.
Finally, I put on the lightweight, “breathable” one. This one felt much better. I could actually move around without feeling like I was in a sauna. I spent a good hour working with my bees, checking the hives, and guess what? No stings! Plus, I wasn’t dying from the heat.
The Winner
So, for me, the lightweight, breathable suit was the clear winner. I’d learned that It’s not just about being totally covered; you gotta be able to move and not overheat! Now, working with my bees is way more enjoyable, and I’m not constantly worried about getting stung. Beekeeping is awesome, and with the right suit, it’s even better!
