Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my keyboard again. This time, it’s all about those “MOA profile” keycaps I’ve been seeing everywhere. Figured I’d give ’em a shot and see what the hype is all about.
First off, I snagged a set online. There are tons of options, different colors, materials, you name it. I went with a pretty basic white set, just to keep things simple for my first try. I already knew the keyboard I wanted to change.
Installation Time!
Getting the old keycaps off was the first hurdle. I used a keycap puller – don’t even try using your fingers, you’ll break something! It’s pretty straightforward, just hook the puller under the keycap and gently pull straight up. Pop! Off they come.
Putting the MOA keycaps on was even easier. They just press right onto the switches. You’ll hear a satisfying little click when they’re fully seated. I started with the smaller keys, like the letters and numbers, then moved on to the bigger ones like the spacebar and shift keys. Just make sure everything is lined up properly before you press down.
- Remove old Keycaps with Keycap puller.
- Align new MOA profile Keycaps.
- Press firmly, listenning the click sound.
The Result
Honestly, the difference is pretty noticeable! MOA keycaps have this rounded, spherical shape, which feels kinda unique under your fingertips. It took a little getting used to, but now I’m really digging it. They’re also a bit taller than the keycaps I had before, which gives the whole keyboard a different look. I did change all my keycaps to MOA, but actually you don’t have to, part of it is enough.
So, yeah, that’s my MOA keycap adventure. Not too complicated, and definitely a fun little project if you’re looking to customize your keyboard. Just make sure to pay a lot of attention to whether the keycap’s shape fit your switch, and get a keycap puller – seriously, it’s a lifesaver!
