Okay, so I wanted to watch a movie on my Apple TV, but the Wi-Fi in my house was being super flaky. I remembered reading somewhere that you could actually AirPlay stuff to an Apple TV without needing to be on the same Wi-Fi network. I was skeptical, but I decided to give it a shot.
First, I grabbed my iPhone and made sure both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth were turned on. I did the same thing on my Apple TV, making sure both of those radios were active, too.
Trying it Out!
- I then opened the video on my phone that i wanted to see on big screen.
- I looked for that familiar AirPlay icon (you know, the little rectangle with the triangle at the bottom). I tapped it.
- My Apple TV, even not on the same wifi ,showed up in the list of available devices!
- I selected it, and Boom, There’s a prompt appeared, i entered it on my Apple TV.
Honestly, I was a little surprised. My phone and Apple TV weren’t connected to the same Wi-Fi network, but the movie started playing on my TV! It wasn’t perfectly smooth at first – there was a tiny bit of buffering – but it quickly settled down and worked great. I guess it creates some kind of direct connection between the two devices. Pretty neat!
So, yeah, it actually works! No more relying on crummy Wi-Fi to watch stuff on my Apple TV. This is a game-changer for movie nights when the internet decides to take a break.
