Alright, let’s talk about those hexagon lights I put up in my gym. It was a whole project, lemme tell ya.
So, first things first, I saw these lights online, right? Super cool, modern lookin’. Thought, “Man, I gotta have those in my gym.” My gym was lookin’ kinda drab, just your average garage setup. Needed some pizzazz.
Started by doin’ some research. Hexagon lights, obviously. But there’s a ton of different kinds! Brightness, size, how they connect… it’s a whole world. Decided I wanted something pretty bright, since it’s a gym, and adjustable, so I could dim ’em down if I wanted a chill vibe for yoga or somethin’. Also made sure they were connectable, because I wanted a big, crazy design.
Then came the buying part. Amazon, baby! Found a set that looked good, read the reviews (always read the reviews!), and pulled the trigger. They weren’t cheap, I’ll admit, but I figured it was an investment in my mental health… and my gains.
Once they arrived, I unboxed everything. There were a lot of pieces. Each hexagon, connectors, power adapters… laid it all out on the floor to get a sense of it all. The instructions? Yeah, those were kinda useless. Tiny pictures, broken English. But hey, that’s part of the fun, right?
The planning was next. I didn’t just want to randomly slap these things on the ceiling. Grabbed some masking tape and started laying out different designs on the floor. Took some measurements of my ceiling to make sure everything would fit. Settled on a sort of honeycomb pattern, with a few random hexagons sticking out. Looked pretty sweet on the floor.
Started the actual install. This was the tricky part. My garage ceiling isn’t exactly perfectly flat. Used a stud finder to locate the joists, and marked them with a pencil. Then, started attaching the hexagons one by one. Most of them came with adhesive pads, which worked okay, but I also used some small screws for extra security. Didn’t want these things falling on my head while I was benching!
The connectors were a bit fiddly. Little plastic clips that snapped the hexagons together. Took a little trial and error to get them lined up perfectly. And the wiring! Each hexagon had to be connected to the power adapter. Ran the wires along the ceiling, tucking them away as best I could. It’s not the cleanest job in the world, but it’s functional.
Ran into a couple of snags along the way. One of the power adapters died after about an hour. Had to order a replacement. And a couple of the hexagons were slightly different colors, which was annoying. But overall, it went pretty smoothly.
Finally, after a whole weekend of work, it was done! Flipped the switch, and bam! Instant gym upgrade. The lights are super bright, and the honeycomb pattern looks awesome. It totally transforms the space. Now I actually want to work out in my garage. It’s like my own personal Tron training arena.
Things I Learned:
- Plan it out! Don’t just wing it. Take the time to design the layout and measure everything.
- Read the reviews! Seriously. They can save you from buying junk.
- Have extra hardware on hand! Screws, wire ties, whatever. You’ll probably need ’em.
- Patience is key! This is not a quick project. Take your time and don’t get frustrated.
Would I do it again? Absolutely! It was a pain in the butt, but totally worth it. My gym is now officially cooler than yours.
