Okay, let me tell you about this thing I’ve been trying out, I just call it “chattp” in my notes. It’s nothing fancy, really just how I started using chat tools differently.
Getting Started with the Idea
So, I was messing around, you know, trying to get some stuff done. I initially just dumped a whole big problem into one of those chat AIs. Like, asked it to figure out a whole sequence of steps for a web thing I was thinking about. Just threw everything at it. Predictably, it didn’t really get it. The response was messy, kinda confusing, missed a lot of points. It felt like talking to someone who heard only half of what I said.
Breaking It Down – The Actual Process
I realized that wasn’t working. It’s like trying to eat a whole pizza in one bite. So, I thought, okay, let’s try this differently. I started breaking my requests down. Real small.
First Step: One Thing at a Time
Instead of asking for the whole thing, I’d ask for just the very first part. Like, “Okay, just give me an idea for this specific bit.” I typed that in. Got a response. Okay, that’s better. Then I took that response and used it for the next step. “Alright, based on that, what about this next piece?” It became a conversation, back and forth.
- I asked for a small chunk.
- I looked at what it gave me.
- I asked for the next chunk, using what I just got.
- Repeat.
It was slow, yeah, but way more manageable. The AI seemed to handle these smaller bits much better. Less confusion, more useful output each time.
Guiding the Feel of It
Another thing I started doing was telling it how I wanted the answer. Sometimes the replies were too stiff, too formal. So I’d say, “Okay, tell me that again, but make it sound more casual.” Or if I needed something really direct for some notes, I’d ask, “Can you phrase that very simply? Like bullet points?”
I found I had to be specific about the tone. If I typed lazy, quick questions, I got lazy, generic answers. If I was more careful in my prompt, saying “Explain this like I’m new to it” or “Give me a technical but simple explanation,” the results improved quite a bit. It felt like I was steering the conversation better.
Where I Ended Up
So, this “chattp” thing, it’s really just this method: talk to the chat tool step-by-step, and be clear about the style you want back. Don’t throw the kitchen sink at it. Guide it.
Did it magically solve everything? Nah. Sometimes it still gave weird answers. Sometimes I had to rephrase my small steps multiple times. But it definitely made the process less frustrating. I got more usable bits out of it compared to just asking for the moon right away. It’s become a regular part of how I try to untangle complex ideas or tasks now. Just breaking it down and talking it through, piece by piece.
