Okay, so check it out, I finally got around to messing with those iPhone camera protectors everyone’s been talking about.

First off, I snagged a pack of ’em off the internet – you know, the usual place. They were pretty cheap, so I wasn’t expecting miracles, but figured it was worth a shot to keep my camera lenses from getting scratched up. My phone’s seen better days already, and I’m not planning on upgrading anytime soon.

The pack came with like, three protectors and some wipes. The wipes were those tiny alcohol ones, which I guess are supposed to clean the lenses. I used one of those to wipe down the camera area on my phone. Made sure to get all the dust and smudges off. That’s step one, right?

Next, I peeled the backing off the camera protector. This was the tricky part. These things are small, and my fingers are not. I swear, I almost dropped it like five times. Finally managed to get it lined up over the camera lenses. It’s got individual cutouts for each lens, so you gotta be precise.

Once I thought it was in the right spot, I pressed down on it. The protector is supposed to stick to the camera housing. I rubbed it a bit to make sure it was on there good, trying to get any air bubbles out. There were a couple of tiny ones, but I couldn’t get rid of them completely. Oh well.

Did the same thing for all three cameras, one at a time. Felt kinda like putting on a screen protector, but way smaller and more fiddly. After all three were on, I gave the whole area another wipe with the dry cloth that came with the kit.

Now, the big question: does it actually work? So far, so good. The camera still takes pictures just fine. I haven’t noticed any difference in image quality. And yeah, the lenses feel a bit more protected, you know? Like, I’m not as worried about tossing my phone in my bag with my keys and stuff.

I’ve had them on for about a week now. I banged my phone against the corner of the table (as usual lol), and after inspection, it seems to have protected it.

Would I recommend these things? If you’re clumsy like me, and you care about your phone’s camera, then yeah, probably. They’re cheap and easy enough to install, and they seem to offer at least a little bit of extra protection. Just don’t expect them to be bulletproof or anything. I will keep using them!
