So, today, I’m gonna talk about changing the profile icon on HBO Max. I tried to do this a while back, and I gotta say, it wasn’t as straightforward as I thought it would be. But I’ve figured it out, and now I’m here to share the process with y’all.
Find the Edit Button
First, I logged into HBO Max, and I was like, “Where do I change this thing?” There’s no obvious “edit profile” button staring at you. You actually have to go to your profile, and only then you will see a “plus New Profile” option. If you already have a bunch of profiles, you might even need to scroll to find it. It’s kinda hidden, you know? And it feels like you’re adding a new profile rather than editing an existing one.
Select the Icon
Once I got there, it gave me the option to choose a new avatar or just skip. At first, I just skipped it. And you’d think you could choose from some cool HBO character icons, right? Well, you’d be wrong. I was just stuck with these generic images. But I saw some folks online using characters from HBO shows, and I wanted that too.
Use the Mobile App
Then, I found out the trick. You have to use the mobile app on your phone or tablet to select those special character avatars. It’s weird, I know. Why not just let us do it on the TV app? But hey, that’s how it is. So, I downloaded the app, logged in, and went to edit my profile there. Finally, I saw all the cool character icons!
- Open the HBO Max app on your mobile device.
- Log in to your account.
- Go to your profile.
- Tap the “Edit” icon (it usually looks like a pencil).
- Choose your new avatar from the available character images.
I picked the one I liked, saved it, and boom! It showed up on my Apple TV. It took a little while to update, but it worked. By the way, if it doesn’t show up right away on your TV, try restarting the app or your device.
Final Touches
After figuring this out, I also noticed that HBO Max has some browsing features. There’s a “Browse by Genre” section, where you can find movies and shows in categories like Action, Comedy, and Reality. They also have a “Top 10” list, which is pretty handy if you just wanna see what’s popular right now. Pretty cool for just browsing and finding something to watch when you’re not sure what you’re in the mood for.
It would be nice if you could use a custom image but maybe they just want to keep it to their show characters to promote their content. But, I also found some extension, the extension can customize the icon, but I feel unsafe to install it. So I will give up.
So there you have it. Changing your HBO Max profile icon isn’t super intuitive, but once you know the mobile app trick, it’s easy peasy. Now you can show off your favorite characters on your profile, too!
