Magic Mouse 2 vs 3: A Simple Comparison for Buyers

Alright, guys, let’s talk about the Magic Mouse 2 and 3. I’ve been using Apple stuff for a while, and I recently got my hands on what people are calling the “Magic Mouse 3.” Spoiler alert: it’s basically the same as the Magic Mouse 2.

So, I unboxed this thing, and honestly, I couldn’t tell the difference at first. It looks the same, feels the same, and has the same weird charging port on the bottom. I mean, come on, Apple, you couldn’t move that to a more convenient spot?

I started using it with my Mac, and it worked just like my old Magic Mouse 2. Smooth scrolling, nice gestures, all that jazz. It’s definitely the best mouse for macOS in terms of how it feels and integrates with the system. I’ve tried a bunch of other mice, and nothing comes close to the Magic Mouse for that seamless experience.

Then, I decided to see if it worked with my iPad. And guess what? It did! It paired up just fine, and I was able to use it with iPadOS. That’s pretty cool, I guess. I don’t use a mouse with my iPad that often, but it’s nice to know I can.

After using it for a while, I dug around online to see if there were any actual differences between the 2 and 3. Turns out, most people say they’re identical. Some folks mentioned a new woven cable, but that’s about it. Not exactly a game-changer.

My Final Thoughts

Look, if you already have a Magic Mouse 2, there’s no reason to rush out and buy the “Magic Mouse 3.” It’s the same mouse, and you’re not missing out on anything. If you’re in the market for a new mouse and you’re deep in the Apple ecosystem, the Magic Mouse is a solid choice. It’s sleek, it’s functional, and it works great with Macs. Plus, it now plays nice with iPads too.

But let’s be real, it’s not perfect. That charging port is still a pain, and it’s a bit pricey. But hey, it’s Apple, right? We’re used to it.

  • Pros:
    • Seamless integration with macOS.
    • Smooth scrolling and gestures.
    • Works with iPads (iPadOS 13.4 or later).
    • Looks great.
  • Cons:
    • Charging port is on the bottom.
    • Expensive.
    • Basically the same as Magic Mouse 2.

So, there you have it. My take on the Magic Mouse 2 vs. 3 saga. Hope this was helpful, folks!
