Alright, so the other day I was digging through some old stuff and stumbled upon my old Atari XEGS. Man, that brought back memories! I set it up just for kicks and started looking for games to play. I thought I’d share my little adventure of rediscovering the Atari XEGS game list with you guys.
First off, finding a comprehensive list was a bit of a challenge. I mean, this console is ancient! But I managed to find some resources that listed the games released during its lifetime. It’s not a huge library, but there are definitely some gems.
I started by trying to remember the games I used to play. I recalled Choplifter, which was this cool shooter game. I found it on one of the lists and gave it a go. It was just as fun as I remembered!
- Choplifter: I spent hours on this one as a kid. It’s a side-scrolling shooter where you pilot a helicopter and rescue hostages. Simple but super addictive.
- There was this one game I couldn’t remember the name of. It was an Animated Puzzle, I eventually found it mentioned on an updated page. Playing it again was a blast from the past.
Then I decided to explore some games I hadn’t played before. I found out there are some seriously rare XEGS games. There were posts about rare games, like, “Top 5 Rarest Atari XE Games” and stuff like that. I guess some of these cartridges are worth a lot now, it’s pretty wild to think about that. I wish I had those rare ones!
I did find some other interesting titles. I learned that the Atari 2600 was released in 1977, way before my time. It seems like they made a lot of games for it. It’s interesting that the XEGS can play some of these old 2600 games. Also came across some info about the Atari Program Exchange from 1981, there are some games made by fans or something like that, it’s a whole history lesson.
It’s crazy to think that the Atari 2600 had over 600 games! I saw a list that said they were made between 1977 and 2023. That’s a really long time! I also read that Atari was a big deal back in the day, operating from 1972 to 1984. They made a lot of stuff, not just games.
Going through this old game list and playing some of them was a fun trip down memory lane. It’s amazing how these simple games can still be so entertaining. I might even try to find some more of these old games online and see what else is out there. It’s like a treasure hunt!
What about you guys?
Did any of you have an Atari XEGS or play any of these games? I’d love to hear about your experiences or if you have any recommendations for games I should check out. Let’s keep the Atari spirit alive!
