Alright, so the other day I noticed something was up with my Eufy Indoor 2K camera. The video was working fine, but I couldn’t get any audio to come through. It was like watching a silent movie, which is not what you want from a security camera, right?
First off, I double-checked the basics. I made sure the microphone was enabled in the Eufy app. You know, just in case it somehow got turned off. And, yeah, the volume was all the way up on my phone and in the app. So, those weren’t the issues.
Then, I tried listening to the sound coming from the camera itself. I could hear some white noise when watching the livestream and even in the playback videos, but no actual sound from my voice or anything. It was weird because the camera itself wasn’t making any noise, it’s just that the audio wasn’t being broadcast to my phone.
I have a couple of these cameras in different spots, even in different houses, so I checked the others. Same issue. This made me think it wasn’t just a single faulty camera, but maybe something else.
Trying to Update the Firmware
One of the first things I usually do when tech acts up is to check for updates. So, I went ahead and updated the firmware on the cameras. But guess what? The sound actually got worse after the update. Seriously, it went from bad to worse. Not helpful at all.
Re-adding the Camera
After a bit of digging around and reading some forum posts, I found a suggestion that seemed a bit drastic but worth a shot. It involved removing the camera from the Eufy app and then adding it back as if it were a new device. I was skeptical, but I was also desperate.
- So, I removed the camera from my Eufy app.
- Then, I went through the setup process again, just like I did when I first got the camera.
- I scanned the QR code, connected it to my Wi-Fi, and all that jazz.
And you know what? It worked! After re-adding the camera, the audio started working again. It was such a relief. It seems like there might be some sort of glitch in the software that gets fixed when you reset the camera like this.
Anyway, if you’re pulling your hair out over your Eufy camera not transmitting sound, give this a try. It might just save you a lot of headaches. It’s a bit of a pain to set up the camera again, but it’s way better than having a security camera that doesn’t let you hear what’s going on.
