Is US Cellular Good? We Tested It to Find Out!

Alright, so, I’ve been messing around with different cell phone carriers lately, just trying to find one that works best for me and my needs. And that led me to try out US Cellular, which I’d heard some mixed things about. I figured, “Why not give it a shot?” and see for myself what the deal is.

First off, I went to their website to see what kind of plans they offered. They’ve got the usual postpaid and prepaid options, nothing too surprising there. I ended up going with a postpaid plan because I wanted to bring my own phone, which, by the way, is a bit of a process. You gotta make sure your device is compatible and all that jazz. But once I got through that hurdle, I was ready to roll.

Now, where I live, in eastern North Carolina, the coverage is a big deal. I need a carrier that won’t leave me hanging when I’m out and about. I did some digging online, and it seemed like US Cellular had a decent reputation in my area, but you never really know until you try it yourself, right?

So, I got my SIM card all set up, popped it into my phone, and started using it as my daily driver. The first thing I noticed was that, yeah, the coverage is pretty good. I was getting a solid LTE signal in most places I went. Even when I was at home, where I usually have to rely on cell boosters with other carriers, US Cellular was holding its own.

  • I did some speed tests, just for kicks.
  • The results were, well, decent.
  • Not the fastest I’ve ever seen, but definitely usable.
  • I could stream videos, browse the web, and do all the usual stuff without any major hiccups.

One thing I did try was Wi-Fi calling, since I know some folks swear by it. It worked, but it wasn’t perfect. There were a few times where the call quality got a little choppy, but nothing too terrible. I’ve heard they’re turning off their old 1x network, which I guess is a good thing for LTE, but it might affect some people who rely on that older tech.

I’ve only been using US Cellular for a short while now, so I can’t say for sure if it’s the best carrier ever. But so far, it’s been a pretty solid experience. It’s not without its quirks, but the coverage is good, the speeds are decent, and it works well with my phone. It’s worth checking out if you’re in an area where they have a strong presence.

Overall, I’m not mad at my decision to give US Cellular a try. I mean, it is actually working pretty well for me. It gets the job done. If you’re thinking about switching, I’d say do your research, check out their coverage maps, and maybe even ask around to see what other people’s experiences have been like. It is really interesting!
