So, I’ve been messing around with watches lately, specifically those “depth charge” ones. You know, the kind that look like they could survive a nuclear submarine accident? Yeah, those. I wanted to see what the fuss was all about and if they’re really as tough as they look.
First, I got my hands on a couple of these bad boys. I didn’t go for the super expensive ones, just some mid-range models that claimed to be water-resistant up to some crazy depth. I mean, I’m not planning on diving to the bottom of the Mariana Trench anytime soon, but I wanted something that could handle more than just a splash in the sink.
The “Testing” Phase
Okay, “testing” might be a strong word. It was more like me being clumsy and seeing what happened.
- The Shower Test: This was the first, and most basic, test. I wore one of the watches in the shower. Pretty straightforward, right? It passed with flying colors. No surprises there.
- The Sink Dunk: Next, I filled the sink with water and just… left the watch in there for a while. Like, a good hour or so. Again, no issues. It kept ticking away like nothing happened.
- The Accidental Drop: This one wasn’t planned. I was washing dishes, and the watch slipped off my wrist and clunk into the soapy water. Pulled it out, rinsed it off, and it was fine. These things are built tough, I’ll give them that.
- The Swimming Pool: Finally took it for a proper swim. Dived a bit, nothing too crazy, maybe 6 feet down. It was more than perfect.
My Verdict
Honestly, I’m pretty impressed. These depth charge watches, even the not-so-expensive ones, can take a beating. I’m not saying you should go banging them against rocks or anything, but for everyday wear and tear, even with a bit of water exposure, they seem to hold up just fine. They definitely live up to the hype, at least in my (somewhat unscientific) experience. If you’re hard on your stuff and worry about water damage, these watches are the real stuff.
