Okay, so I wanted to mess around with Google Maps and check out Andros Island. I’d heard it was pretty cool, so I figured, why not?

Firing Up Google Maps

First things first, I opened up Google Maps on my computer. You know, the usual – just typed it into the search bar and clicked on the familiar map icon.

Zooming In on the Bahamas

Once the map loaded, I typed “Andros Island” into the search box at the top. Google was smart enough to know what I was looking for, and it zoomed me right over to the Bahamas. Nice!

Exploring the Island

Now for the fun part! I started by just dragging the map around, getting a feel for the island’s shape and size. It’s pretty big, actually – the biggest in the Bahamas, I think.

  • Switching Views: I toggled between the regular map view and the satellite view. Satellite view is awesome because you get to see the actual terrain, the colors of the water, and even some of the reefs.
  • Zooming In Closer: I used the zoom buttons (the little plus and minus signs) to get a closer look at different parts of the island. I could see roads, some small towns, and lots and lots of blue holes!
  • Street View (or Lack Thereof): I tried to use Street View, you know, that little yellow guy you can drag onto the map? But it looks like there isn’t much Street View coverage on Andros Island. Not surprising, it’s pretty remote.
  • Checking out Landmarks: I looked for some points of interest. Google Maps highlighted a few, like the Andros Barrier Reef (which looked amazing!) and some national parks.

My Impressions

From what I can see on Google Maps, Andros Island looks super interesting. Lots of wild, untouched nature, incredible water colors, and those blue holes are just mind-blowing. It definitely makes me want to visit someday and see it all in person!
