Okay, so I’ve been trying to figure out this whole Apple Watch and Blue Cross Blue Shield thing for a while, and I finally cracked it! I wanted to share my experience, step-by-step, because it wasn’t as straightforward as I thought it would be.
Getting Started
First, I grabbed my iPhone and my Apple Watch. Make sure they’re both charged up – you don’t want anything dying in the middle of this. I also made sure I had my Blue Cross Blue Shield member ID card handy. You’ll need your member number and group number.
Downloading the Right App
Next, I opened the App Store on my iPhone. I typed in “Blue Cross Blue Shield” in the search bar. Now, this is where it got a little tricky. There are a bunch of different BCBS apps, depending on your specific plan and location. I had to make sure I downloaded the one that matched my insurance card. Mine’s the basic one, just called “Blue Cross Blue Shield”. I tapped “Get” and waited for it to download and install.
Setting up the BCBS App
Once the app was installed, I opened it up. It asked me to create an account or log in. Since I already had an online account with BCBS, I just used my existing username and password. If you don’t have an account, you’ll need to create one. This is where that member ID card comes in – you’ll need your info to register.
Connecting to the Apple Watch
This is the part I stumbled on for a bit. I initially thought the BCBS app would automatically sync with my Apple Watch. Nope! At least, not that I could easily find. What I ended up doing that did work, I opened the “Watch” app on my iPhone, you know, the one that controls all the settings for your Apple Watch.
Checking The Complications
I scrolled down and found the Blue Cross Blue Shield app in the list of available apps. I tapped on it and there it was! The toggle to show it on my watch face. I don’t see a complication for the watch face though. I think I have to use my phone to see that data.
The Result!
I’m not seeing a way to use my Apple Watch to track fitness that syncs directly to Blue Cross Blue Shield for benefits, it doesn’t appear that BCBS directly connects with it like that. So, I can at least check all of my benefits and claims from my watch! So I’m all good with using this.
