Okay, so I’ve been wanting a phone case with a lanyard for a while now. I’m always dropping my phone, or digging around in my bag for it, so I figured a lanyard would be super helpful. I started looking around online, but honestly, most of the ones I found were either super expensive or just plain ugly.

So, I thought, “Why not just make my own?” I’m pretty crafty, and I figured it couldn’t be that hard. I’m going to show details about my DIY.

Gathering Supplies

First things first, I needed to gather my supplies. Here’s what I ended up using:

  • A plain phone case: I just grabbed a cheap, clear one. Nothing fancy.
  • Some sturdy cord: I used some leftover paracord I had lying around. You could use ribbon, shoelaces, whatever you have.
  • A drill: I needed to make a couple of small holes in the phone case.
  • Scissors: To cut the cord, obviously.
  • A lighter: To melt the ends of the paracord so it wouldn’t fray. (Be careful with this!)
  • some small decorations:It depends on what kind of styles you want.

The Process

First, I took my phone case and figured out where I wanted the lanyard to attach. I decided to put it on the bottom corners, so it would hang evenly. Then, I very carefully drilled two small holes, one in each corner. Make sure the holes are big enough for your cord to fit through, but not too big!

Next, I cut a length of paracord. I made it pretty long, so I could wear the phone around my neck or across my body. I used the lighter to carefully melt the ends of the cord, so they wouldn’t unravel. This part is important, so don’t skip it!

Then, I threaded one end of the cord through one of the holes in the phone case, from the outside in. I tied a simple knot on the inside of the case, making sure it was really secure. I repeated this on the other side.

Then, I add some small decorations on the cord to make it look more personal.

The Finished Product

And that’s it! I now have a phone case with a lanyard, and it cost me next to nothing. It’s already saved me from dropping my phone a few times, and it’s so much easier to find in my bag. Plus, I think it looks pretty cool, if I do say so myself. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and I made it! I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. If you’re looking for a cheap and easy way to add a lanyard to your phone case, I definitely recommend giving this a try!
