Okay, here’s my experience with a phone mount for a car air vent, written in the style of a personal blog post:
So, I finally caved and decided to get a phone mount for my car. I’ve been juggling my phone, trying to use GPS, and it’s just a recipe for disaster. I figured an air vent mount would be the easiest thing to try first. No sticky stuff on the dash, you know?
Off to the Store
I went down to the local auto parts store. They had a whole wall of these things! It was a little overwhelming, honestly. There were all kinds – magnetic ones, ones with little arms that grip your phone, you name it.
Making a Choice
I ended up grabbing one that looked pretty simple. It had a clip that supposedly fit any air vent, and a spring-loaded thing to hold the phone. Seemed easy enough. It was like 10 bucks, so, not a huge investment if it turned out to be junk.
The Installation (Or, My First Struggle)
Getting it onto the vent was a little trickier than the package made it look. My car’s vents are kind of…vertical and thin. The clip on the mount was designed for wider, horizontal vents. After some serious wiggling and a bit of muttering under my breath, I finally got it to kind of…stay. It wasn’t super secure, but I figured it was good enough for a test run.
The Phone Part
Putting my phone in the mount was easy, at least. The springy arms grabbed it nice and tight. So far, so good. I started my drive, and that’s when things got interesting.
The Drive Test
- First bump: The whole mount jiggled. Not a great sign.
- Second bump: The mount started to droop. My phone was now facing the floor.
- Sharp turn: The mount…well, it didn’t fall off completely, but my phone definitely went sideways.
The Result
By the time I got where I was going, the mount was hanging on for dear life, and my phone was at a totally useless angle. I ended up just pulling the whole thing off and tossing it in the glove compartment. Maybe I’ll try a different kind next time. Or maybe I’ll just get better at memorizing directions. One of the two!
In conclusion I succeeded in installing the mount and my * it didn’t work very well.
