Alright, so I wanted to play my Steam games on my big TV, you know, chill on the couch instead of hunched over my desk. I’d heard about Steam Link and I have a Chromecast, so I figured, “Why not give it a shot?”
First, I made sure my PC and my Chromecast were on the same Wi-Fi network. That’s kinda crucial, otherwise they won’t find each other. Then, I grabbed my phone and went to the Google Play Store.
Getting the App
I searched for “Steam Link” and, boom, there it was. I hit install, waited a bit for it to download and do its thing, and then opened it up.
Setting Things Up
The app is pretty straightforward. It started scanning for computers running Steam. My PC popped up on the list, I selected it, and then it gave me a PIN code.
I hopped over to my PC, and sure enough, Steam had a notification asking me to enter that PIN. Typed it in, hit okay, and bam! Connection established.
Testing the Waters
Next, the app did a little network test. Just making sure my connection was good enough for streaming. It gave me the green light, so I was feeling pretty good at this point.
Chromecast Time
Now, it was time to switch over to the TV. I made sure my Chromecast was on, then I grabbed remote and switch input source.
Launched the Steam Link app on my phone, click start. The steam big picture mode showed on my TV.
Finally Game time
I use my controller to choose a game from my library and start it *’s a bit of setup involved, but it’s all pretty easy to follow.
