Okay, so, I wanted to see if I could dub some old CDs onto VHS tapes. Yeah, I know, it sounds weird, but I was curious.
First, I grabbed my old VCR combo player, the one that can also play DVDs. I dusted it off and hooked it up to my TV. Then, I grabbed a blank VHS tape. It was one of those old ones my dad used to record stuff on, so I was a little worried it might not work, but I went with it anyway.
Next, I needed a way to get the audio from the CD to the VCR. I remembered reading somewhere that some camcorders can do this, but I didn’t have one of those. I dug around in my closet and found an old CD player with audio output jacks, so I figured I’d give that a shot.
- First I connected the audio output from the CD player to the audio input on the VCR.
- Next I inserted a CD into the CD player.
- I selected a song.
- Pressing play on the CD player.
- pressing record on the VCR.
I let it play for a few minutes, then stopped both the CD player and the VCR. I rewound the VHS tape and hit play to see if it worked. And guess what? It actually did! I could hear the music from the CD playing through my TV, recorded on the VHS tape!
I tried it with a few different CDs, and they all worked. I was surprised at how easy it was. It’s probably not the most practical way to save music, but it was a fun experiment. It just goes to show you, sometimes those old gadgets still have some life left in them!
I even recorded a video of myself and put it on the VCR tape. It’s a little bit of a hassle, but it works just fine. I guess you could say it’s not the most efficient way to archive music, but hey, it was a cool little project!
So yeah, you can totally dub CDs onto VHS tapes. Who knew?
