Okay, so I’ve been messing around with chargers lately, specifically a 20W and a 30W one, to see if the extra wattage really makes a difference. You know, does it actually charge my phone faster, or is it just marketing hype?
The Experiment Setup
I started by grabbing my phone – it was almost dead, like 5% battery left. I also made sure I had the same type of charging cable for both tests, so that wouldn’t skew the results.
First up, I plugged it into the 20W charger. I kept an eye on the battery percentage, jotting down the time it took to reach certain milestones, like 25%, 50%, 75%, and finally, 100%.
- 20W Charger Test:
- 5% to 25%: Took about 15 minutes.
- 25% to 50%: Another 20 minutes or so.
- 50% to 75%: Roughly 25 minutes.
- 75% to 100%: This last chunk took the longest, around 35 minutes.
Then I repeated the whole process with the 30W charger. I completely drained the battery again (down to that pesky 5%) and started timing.
- 30W Charger Test:
- 5% to 25%: Around 13 minutes – a tiny bit faster.
- 25% to 50%: About 18 minutes – again, slightly quicker.
- 50% to 75%: 23 minutes – barely noticeable difference.
- 75% to 100%: This part took about 32 minutes, give or take.
My observations
Honestly, looking at the numbers, the difference was way smaller than I expected. The 30W charger was slightly faster, especially in the early stages of charging, like getting from 5% to 50%. But overall, it wasn’t a game-changer.
We’re talking a few minutes difference here and there, nothing groundbreaking. The last bit of charging, from 75% to 100%, took almost the same amount of time on both chargers.
The Take Away
So, here’s the deal, if you’re already rocking a 20W charger, I wouldn’t rush out to buy a 30W one. The time you save is pretty minimal in my opinion, not that noticable! Save your bucks.
But, if you’re buying a new charger anyway, and the price difference isn’t huge, sure, go for the 30W. It’s a little bit faster, but don’t expect miracles.
It is all the experiences I did, hope it helps you guys!
