Okay, let me share how I recently had to turn off my SimpliSafe base station. It wasn’t super obvious at first, but it’s pretty straightforward once you know what to do.
First Steps
So, the first thing I did was unplug the base station from the wall outlet. That’s the main power cord, pretty simple. Just traced the wire from the base station to the wall and pulled the plug.
Dealing with the Backup Battery
But wait, the darn thing stayed on! That’s because it has backup batteries inside. I remembered reading about that. So, I picked up the base station. I had to flip it over to look at the bottom.
There’s a little compartment down there. On mine, I had to use a small screwdriver, like a Phillips head, to unscrew one tiny screw holding the battery cover in place. It wasn’t super tight, just needed a few turns.
Once the screw was out, the cover popped right off. Inside, I saw the batteries. They looked like standard AA batteries.
- Unplugged the main power cord first.
- Located the battery compartment on the bottom.
- Used a screwdriver to remove the cover screw.
- Removed the battery cover.
Finalizing the Shutdown
Then, I just took the batteries out. There were four of them in my unit. As soon as I pulled the last battery out, the base station finally went completely dark and silent. No more lights, no more sounds. It was completely off.
So, basically: unplug it, then take out the backup batteries from the bottom. That’s all it took for me to shut it down completely. Pretty easy once you do it the first time.
