Costco VHS to DVD Service: Is It Worth It? (Quick Guide)

Okay, so I wanted to talk about this little project I did, getting my old VHS tapes turned into DVDs. You know, those old home movies and stuff collecting dust? I figured it was time to bring them into the 21st century.

I remembered seeing something about Costco doing this kind of thing. I’m already a member there, and I like how they do things, so I thought, why not give it a shot? I dug out a bunch of tapes from the attic – seriously, there were tons. I wasn’t even sure what was on half of them! My parents had some old home movies on VHS, and I had a few tapes from when I was a kid. It was kind of a trip down memory lane just looking at them.

So, I packed up all these tapes and headed to my local Costco. I went to their photo center and, yeah, they had this service for converting VHS to DVDs. That was a relief! I asked about how it all worked. They explained that they send the tapes out to some service they use. Sounded easy enough.

  • I filled out the order form, and you just leave them your tapes.
  • I also heard that they put it online, too, which is pretty cool. I didn’t do that, but you know, it is an option.
  • Then, they said it would take a few weeks.
  • I was a bit anxious about handing over these precious memories, but I figured Costco is a big company, they probably know what they’re doing, and it did look like they were going to take good care of my precious memories.

Anyway, after a few weeks, I got a call from Costco saying my order was ready. Picked it up, and there they were – all my old tapes turned into shiny new DVDs! I was so excited to see what was on these tapes.

The Results

I popped the first DVD into my player, and boom – there was my family, 20 years younger! It was wild. The quality was way better than I expected, honestly. I mean, these were old tapes, but the DVDs looked pretty good. It was so cool seeing all those old memories again. Some of them I hadn’t seen in decades, and some I’d completely forgotten about. There were a few moments where I got a little emotional, not gonna lie. It’s like a time capsule, you know?

I’m still going through all of them, but so far, I’m really happy I did this. It’s like giving these old memories a new lease on life. Now I can watch them whenever I want, and I don’t have to worry about the tapes degrading anymore. Plus, it’s way easier to share them with family. I’m thinking of making copies for everyone. I’d definitely recommend it if you’ve got a box of old tapes lying around. It’s a cool way to preserve your past.
