Alright, let’s talk about the Delta M2 Base microphone. I picked one up a few months ago, mainly ’cause I needed somethin’ cheap and quick for some voiceovers and maybe the odd gaming session. So, I dove right in, seein’ what this little guy could do.
First impressions weren’t too bad. Took it outta the box, plugged it in – simple USB connection, which is always a plus. No fancy software needed, just straight into my PC. Started messin’ around with it in Audacity, doin’ some test recordings. Here’s where things started gettin’ a little… interesting.
- The Good Stuff (Sort Of): It definitely picks up sound. I mean, that’s the basic function, right? And for the price, it wasn’t horrible. Decent enough for just basic voice comms in Discord or somethin’.
- The Not-So-Good: Oh man, the background noise. This thing is like a vacuum cleaner for ambient sound. My keyboard clicks, the hum of my computer, even my dog snorin’ in the next room – ALL of it gets captured. I tried messin’ with the gain, fiddlin’ with noise suppression in Audacity, but nothin’ really made a huge difference.
I tried usin’ it for some actual voiceover work, and that’s where I really ran into problems. I mean, forget about gettin’ a clean, professional sound. There was always this underlying hiss, this layer of noise that just wouldn’t go away. Spent hours tryin’ to edit it out, but honestly, it was more trouble than it was worth.
Complaints? You bet I got complaints.
- Build Quality: Feels kinda cheap, to be honest. All plastic-y. I wouldn’t trust this thing to survive a fall off my desk.
- Sound Quality: Yeah, I already mentioned the noise. But it’s worth reiterating. It’s just not great. Muddy, lacks clarity, and picks up EVERYTHING.
- The Pop Filter (Or Lack Thereof): You absolutely need a pop filter with this thing. Plosives (those harsh “p” and “b” sounds) are a nightmare. I had to rig up a makeshift one out of pantyhose and a wire coat hanger… seriously.
I even checked out some online reviews and forums after I’d messed with it for a while. Turns out, I’m not the only one with these gripes. Loads of people complain about the same issues: the noise, the cheap build, the lack of a decent pop filter. Some folks even had issues with the microphone randomly cutting out, though I didn’t personally experience that.
So, what’s the verdict? Look, for the price, the Delta M2 Base microphone works. But it’s definitely a “you get what you pay for” situation. If you’re just lookin’ for somethin’ super basic for chat or maybe some quick, non-critical recordings, it might be okay. But if you’re serious about sound quality, or if you need somethin’ reliable for professional use, save your money and get somethin’ better. Trust me, the headaches ain’t worth it.
In the end, I ended up ditching the Delta M2 and upgraded to a Blue Yeti. The difference is night and day. Should’ve just done that in the first place. Lesson learned!
