Okay, so yesterday was a real head-scratcher with my eufy security system. The title says it all: “eufy not recording events.” I was pulling my hair out, let me tell you!
First things first, the problem: My eufy cameras just weren’t recording any events, even though they were supposed to. Motion detection was on, activity zones were set, the whole shebang. Nothing. Just a big ol’ blank timeline in the app.
My Initial Panic & Troubleshooting:
- Restarting everything: I started with the basics. Unplugged the HomeBase, waited a minute, plugged it back in. Then, I restarted each camera individually. No dice.
- App Check: I double-checked the eufy Security app. Made sure I was logged in, that the app was up-to-date, and that all the cameras were actually connected to the HomeBase. All looked good on that front.
- Battery Levels: Figured maybe low battery could be the culprit. All my cameras were showing decent battery, so that wasn’t it either.
Deeper Dive into Settings:
Okay, after the obvious stuff didn’t work, I started digging deeper into the settings. This is where things got a bit tedious.
- Motion Detection Sensitivity: I bumped up the motion detection sensitivity on all cameras. Figured maybe they were just too insensitive and missing everything. Still nothing.
- Activity Zones: I messed around with the activity zones, making them larger and even temporarily disabling them altogether to see if that was causing the issue. Nope.
- Recording Mode: This is where I think I started to get somewhere. I checked the recording mode settings in the app. Turns out, one of my cameras had somehow switched to “Optimal Battery Life” mode. This mode drastically reduces recording frequency to save battery… which, duh, explains why it wasn’t recording events!
The Fix (Finally!):
Changing the Recording Mode: I switched the camera from “Optimal Battery Life” to “Optimal Surveillance.” This allows for more frequent recordings and, crucially, event recording! I did this for all cameras to be safe.
Testing, Testing: I walked around in front of the cameras, waving my arms like a crazy person. And guess what? They started recording! Success!
Lessons Learned:
Honestly, this whole thing was a bit frustrating, but it taught me a few things:
- Always check the obvious stuff first: Restarting things is a classic for a reason.
- Dive into the settings: Don’t be afraid to really explore the app and see what’s going on under the hood.
- Recording mode matters!: I’ll be keeping a closer eye on those power saving modes in the future.
So yeah, that’s the story of how I fixed my eufy cameras not recording events. Hope this helps someone else out there battling the same issue!
