Okay, so I saw this “extremely solid nyt” thing trending, and I was like, “What’s that all about?” I’m always up for a good challenge, so I decided to give it a shot myself. No idea what I was getting into, really.
Digging In
First, I had to figure out what this even was. Turns out, it’s about making a super sturdy structure, some kind of, mini-structure. Cool, sounds interesting to build.
I grabbed some toothpicks, because that’s what everyone seemed to be using.
Then some glue, the regular white stuff, nothing fancy.
And started messing around.
Trial and Error (Lots of Error)
My first attempt? Total disaster. I tried to make a little cube, but it kept collapsing. The toothpicks were sliding all over the place, the glue wasn’t holding. It was a mess.
I tried again, this time focusing on making stronger corners. I used more glue, like, a LOT more glue. I also tried to reinforce the toothpicks by layering them. Still wobbly.
- Attempt 1: Collapsed cube. Sad.
- Attempt 2: Wobbly mess. Less sad, but still not great.
Getting Somewhere
I realized I needed a better plan. so, started creating triangles. Triangles are strong, right? That’s what I keep hearing.
I made a bunch of small triangles with the toothpicks and glue, letting them dry completely before connecting them. This was key. Patience, young grasshopper. Or, uh, old blogger, I guess.
I used these solid triangle to build other shapes, finally the structure can stand!
The Final Result
It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely solid. I can poke it, and it doesn’t budge. It’s like a tiny, toothpick fortress. Success!
I am proud of myself, and put it on desk.
So, that’s my “extremely solid nyt” journey. A lot of frustration, a bit of glue-covered fingers, and finally, a pretty cool little structure. Would I do it again? Maybe. If I have a lot of toothpicks and even more time to spare.
