Alright, so I had this little project to tackle over the weekend – dealing with those fire sprinkler escutcheons. You know, those round plates that go around the sprinkler heads to make things look neat and tidy where they come through the ceiling or wall? Yeah, those things.
Getting Started
First, I gathered my supplies. I needed the new escutcheons, of course. Make sure you get the right size! I learned that the hard way. I also grabbed a screwdriver, some pliers, and a small putty knife, I even used a ladder to reach those high-up sprinklers.
Out with the Old
- I used the putty knife to loosen the edges. If there was some caulk sealing it, used to score that first.
- Then, a little prying with the putty knife, and some with the pliers.
- Had to be careful not to damage the sprinkler head itself! That would have been a bad situation.
In with the New
Putting the new escutcheons on was way easier. Most of them just snapped right into place. A satisfying click, and it was done!
For the ones that were a little trickier, I gently used the pliers to get them to fit snug around the sprinkler head.
Some had two pieces that would connect and lock to the sprinkler, others were just one piece, but required to be placed in a certain way.
The Finishing Touch
After all the new escutcheons were on, I used to do a quick check to make sure they were all secure and looked good. And that was it! Job done.
It was a simple project, but it made a big difference in how the room looked. No more ugly gaps around those sprinkler heads. If you’ve got some old, cracked, or missing escutcheons, it is an easy fix that’s totally worth doing!
