Okay, so I’ve been seeing these “Michael M Rings” all over my Pinterest feed, and I finally caved. I wanted to see what all the hype was about, so I decided to dive in and, you know, make one. Or, well, attempt to make one.
The Hunt for Inspiration
First things first, I needed some serious inspiration. I spent a good hour just scrolling through pictures. I pinned a bunch of different styles, some super intricate, others more minimalist. I was feeling a little overwhelmed, to be honest. There are so many options!
Gathering Supplies (aka My Trip to the Craft Store)
Next up, the craft store. This is always a dangerous place for me. I went in for some wire and beads, and I came out with… well, let’s just say I might have gotten a little carried away. I grabbed:
- Different gauges of wire (because I wasn’t sure which one would work best)
- A whole rainbow of seed beads (again, options!)
- Some slightly larger accent beads
- Wire cutters and pliers (essential tools!)
- A ring mandrel (This thing is used to make different ring sizes)
The Actual Ring-Making Process (aka Controlled Chaos)
Okay, time to get down to business. I found a basic tutorial online (no, I’m not linking it, it was kind of confusing anyway), and I just started… twisting. Seriously, that’s a lot of what ring-making is – twisting wire. I picked a thicker gauge wire for the base and a thinner one for wrapping the beads.
I started by forming the basic ring shape around the ring mandrel. Then came the beads. Oh, the beads. This part took forever! I chose a simple pattern, alternating between small seed beads and a larger accent bead. I carefully threaded them onto the thinner wire and wrapped it around the base. It was fiddly, and my fingers definitely got a workout.
The Big Reveal (and Some Lessons Learned)
After a few hours (and a few minor mishaps with the pliers), I had something that resembled a ring! It wasn’t perfect, by any means. The wire wrapping was a little uneven in places, and the beads weren’t perfectly aligned. But you know what? I made it! It’s my Michael M-inspired ring, and I’m kind of proud of it.
What I learned:
- Patience is key. This is not a quick craft.
- Good tools make a difference. My cheap pliers were not ideal.
- It’s okay to mess up! I learned from my mistakes and will (maybe) do better next time.
So, that’s my Michael M ring adventure! It was fun, frustrating, and ultimately rewarding. Now I just need to decide if I’m brave enough to try a more complicated design…
