Okay, here’s my blog post about the Cherry MX keyboard backlighting issue:
So, I ran into this super annoying problem the other day. My Cherry MX keyboard, the one I totally splurged on, wouldn’t turn off its backlighting. Like, ever. It was stuck on, glowing like a Christmas tree even when my computer was asleep. I tried everything I could think of, starting with the basics.
The Easy Stuff (That Didn’t Work)
- Key Combinations: I mashed the function key (Fn) plus every F-key with a lightbulb icon. Nothing. I tried different profiles, thinking maybe I’d accidentally set it to “always on.” Nope.
- Software: If your keyboard come with offical software. And I checked for updates to the firmware, just in case. Still stuck on.
At this point, I was getting a little frustrated. I mean, it’s a keyboard, not the starship Enterprise. Turning off the lights shouldn’t be rocket science.
Digging Deeper
Then, found that unplug it, and replug it back in. The last step is to find the rest hole which is on the back of my keyboard, press the reset hole for five seconds.
Finally, I test different lighting effect and it worked. It’s a stupid bug.
