How Long Does It Take to Charge a Mac Mouse: Simple Answer!

Okay, so the other day, my Magic Mouse died on me right in the middle of something important. Classic, right? I was scrambling to find the charging cable, and then I started wondering, “Seriously, how long is this going to take?” I mean, we all have stuff to do, and nobody wants to sit around waiting for a mouse to charge.

So, I did a little experiment. I plugged the completely dead Magic Mouse into my MacBook using a Lightning cable. I made sure to keep an eye on the time.

My Charging Experiment

  • Starting Point: Totally dead mouse. Zero power. Couldn’t even click.
  • The Cable: Just a regular Lightning cable, nothing fancy.
  • The Wait: I set a timer, just my phone’s stopwatch, nothing too techy.

I’m a little bit impatient, I started checking after just a couple of minutes. And guess what? It actually worked! I mean, I was able to move the cursor and click around. It wasn’t fully charged, but it was enough to get back to what I was doing. So, I’d say a couple of minutes get some basic charge.

After that i felt curious about what would take to fully charge it, then i left it connected and checked frequently the battery level.

I kept it plugged in for a while longer, just to see how long it would take to get a decent charge. About 2 hours later, I checked again, and it was pretty much full, like 90%-100%. This means that if you are in a hurry, 2 minutes will do the trick to get you out of the problem, and if you don’t have time, don’t worry, in 2 hours it will be fully charged!

So, there you have it. From my little test, a totally dead Magic Mouse takes about 2 minutes to get enough juice to be usable, and around two hours to get fully charged. Not bad, really, but it’s always good to know these things, right?
