Okay, here’s my blog post about converting 138 mm to inches, written in a casual, personal style:
So, I was working on this little DIY project the other day – building a custom shelf for my ever-growing collection of, uh, let’s just call them “collectibles.” Anyway, the plans I found online were all in metric, which is fine, I guess. But my brain is still wired in inches, especially when I’m trying to visualize sizes. I needed to know what 138 millimeters looked like in inches, and I decided it use a way I haven’t before, usually I just search them online!
I grabbed my trusty phone. First, I needed to know how many inches one mm is. It is around 0.0393701 in my memory. This process I did, is just in my head.
The Process
- Figured out the conversion factor: I did a quick refresh that 1 millimeter equals about 0.0393701 inches. Like, that’s the magic number.
- Did some simple math. I don’t trust any online search result. I multiplied 138 (that’s the millimeters I had) by 0.0393701 (the inches-per-millimeter thing). Calculator time!
- Got my answer: The calculator popped out 5.4330748. So, 138 mm is roughly 5.43 inches.
I could picture it! It wasn’t some abstract number anymore. It was a little over 5 and a half inches. Perfect for my shelf!
Anyway, that was my mini-adventure in unit conversion for the day. It is easy to accomplish something you want to know, when you get your hand dirty!
