Okay, so, I wanted to copy some music from a CD onto an old-school VHS tape. Sounds kinda weird, right? But I had my reasons, and I thought it’d be a fun little project to mess around with. So here is what I did to make this work.
Getting Started
First things first, I gathered all the stuff I needed. Obviously, I grabbed the CD with the tunes I wanted to copy and a blank VHS tape. Then, I dug out my old VCR and a DVD player that also plays CDs—yeah, they still make those! I also needed some AV cables, the ones with the red, white, and yellow plugs. My old camcorder actually came in handy here, ’cause it has an AV cable that plugs right into the TV, which is perfect.
Hooking Everything Up
Next, I started connecting everything. I put the CD into the DVD player and the VHS tape into the VCR. I plugged one end of the AV cables into the “output” jacks on the DVD player and the other end into the “input” jacks on the VCR. I made sure the colors matched—yellow to yellow, red to red, and white to white. Easy peasy.
Recording
With everything hooked up, I turned on both the VCR and the DVD player. I switched the VCR to the right input channel, usually labeled something like “AUX” or “LINE IN.” Then, I hit “play” on the DVD player and “record” on the VCR at the same time. And that’s pretty much it! The VCR started recording the audio from the CD onto the VHS tape. It was actually easier than I thought it would be, to be honest. I followed the way that mentioned in “Notelu’s Ultimate VHS Capture Guide”.
Watching the Progress
I let the whole CD play through and kept an eye on the VCR to make sure it was recording properly. Sometimes I used software called VirtualDub2, but I found just doing this directly to be easier. The VCR counter showed the recording time, so I knew when it was done. After the CD finished, I stopped the VCR recording.
Playback
To check if it worked, I rewound the VHS tape and hit “play” on the VCR. And there it was! The music from the CD was playing through my TV, coming from the VHS tape. It sounded a bit different, kinda warm and fuzzy, which is the whole vibe of VHS, right? It is a cool way to record audio from a CD to somewhere else.
So yeah, that’s how I dubbed a CD to a VHS tape. It was a fun little experiment, and now I have a unique way to listen to my favorite tunes. If you’re into retro stuff or just want to try something different, give it a shot! You might be surprised at how simple it is.
