Okay, so I wanted to get into some movies that really hit you in the feels, just like “Schindler’s List” did. That movie, man, it’s a tough one but so important, you know? I started by looking up stuff online, trying to find films with that same heavy vibe.
I found some websites talking about war documentaries, like “The World at War” and “Shoah.” These aren’t your typical movies, but more like real-life accounts of the Holocaust. I figured they’d be a good starting point. I also stumbled upon some drama films that were based on historical events, such as “Europa Europa.” They sounded promising, so I decided to give them a shot.
First, I watched “The World at War.” It was a long series, but it really opened my eyes to the horrors of war. I couldn’t believe some of the things I saw. Then I moved on to “Shoah.” It was a tough watch, but I felt like I needed to see it to understand the full extent of what happened. “Europa Europa” was a bit different, since it was a dramatized story, but it still packed an emotional punch. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.
Some Other Films I Dug Into
- “The Reader” – This one’s a drama, set after World War II. It’s about a German guy who gets involved with an older woman who’s on trial for war crimes. Heavy stuff.
- “The Pianist” – Another heart-wrenching drama, this one about a Polish Jewish musician trying to survive in the Warsaw Ghetto. The music in this one is just beautiful, even though the story is so sad.
I kept looking, though. I wanted to find even more movies that were like “Schindler’s List.” I checked out websites, you know, where people review movies. One of these sites even said there are 78 films similar to “Schindler’s List”! It was created by some folks in New Zealand, and they use data from TMDb.
Then I got onto Netflix, iTunes, Amazon – you name it. I just searched for movies similar to “Schindler’s List” on those sites. I found a documentary called “The Lady in Number 6: Music Saved My Life.” It’s about this 109-year-old Holocaust survivor, Aliza Sommer-Herz. Her story is just incredible.
I found out about this book, “The Devil’s Arithmetic” by Jane Yolen. It’s a historical novel, and I heard they made a movie out of it. I haven’t seen it yet, but it’s on my list.
So yeah, that’s how I went about finding movies similar to “Schindler’s List.” It was a bit of a journey, but I found some real gems. I’m still looking for more, though. It’s like, once you start watching these kinds of films, you can’t stop. They just stay with you, you know?
