Okay, so I wanted to get my Wyze Plugs working with SmartThings. It’s not officially supported, which is a bummer, but I figured there had to be a way. I’m not the most tech-savvy person, but I’m pretty good at following instructions, so I dove in.

The Hunt for a Solution

First, I did some digging around online. Lots of folks were in the same boat – wanting to connect these cheap and cheerful Wyze Plugs to their SmartThings hub. I found a bunch of forum posts and articles, some more complicated than others.

The IFTTT Route

The easiest method I found was by using the IFTTT. so I decided to go with it.

Here’s what I did:

  • Created Accounts:First I created a IFTTT and SmartThings account(if you already have it just jump into next step).
  • Connect Wyze:Then I connected Wyze account to IFTTT.
  • Connect SmartThings:Simultaneously I connected SmartThings account to IFTTT.
  • Creating Applets: The basic idea is to create two “applets” in IFTTT for each Wyze Plug:
    • Applet 1 (Turn On):IF Wyze Plug turns on, THEN turn on a virtual switch in SmartThings.
    • Applet 2 (Turn Off):IF Wyze Plug turns off, THEN turn off the same virtual switch in SmartThings.
  • Naming is Key: I made sure to name the virtual switches clearly in SmartThings, like “Wyze Plug – Living Room Lamp,” so I’d know what was what.

Testing and Tweaking

After setting up the applets, I tested things out. I flipped the switch on the Wyze app, and boom, the virtual switch in SmartThings flipped too! Same thing when I turned it off. Success!

There might have been a tiny delay, like a second or two, but it worked consistently.

Final Thoughts

It’s not a perfect solution. But, it gets the job done. Now I can control my Wyze Plugs through SmartThings, include them in routines, and generally make my smart home a little bit smarter. Pretty neat!
