Okay, so let me tell you about this iPhone 7 Plus case situation.
My old iPhone 7 Plus, bless its heart, was starting to look a bit rough around the edges. Had it for ages, you know? Still works fine, mostly. But the old case I had on it? Cracked. Looked terrible. Plus, I dropped it the other day – thankfully just on the carpet – and thought, yeah, time for a new skin for this old soldier.
Finding the Right One
Didn’t want anything fancy. Honestly, scrolling through pages and pages of cases online just gives me a headache. Flashing lights, weird patterns, kickstands I’ll never use… nah. I just needed something simple. Something that felt decent in the hand and wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. Remembered seeing some basic ones in a little shop downtown, so I decided to just go there instead of waiting for shipping.
Walked into the shop. Loads of options, still. But I zoomed in on the simple stuff. Found a plain black silicone one. Picked it up. Felt okay. Not too slippery, not too sticky. The guy behind the counter was busy with someone else, so I just stood there turning it over in my hands. Seemed flexible enough to get on without a fight, but sturdy enough to maybe absorb a small shock. Good enough for me.
Getting it On and Using It
Paid the man, took it home. Getting it out of the little plastic bag was probably the hardest part. Popped the old, busted case off the phone. Gave the phone a quick wipe – amazing how much gunk gets under there. Then, stretched the new silicone case a bit and eased the phone in, corner by corner. Snapped right in place. Easy peasy.
First impressions?
- Fit snugly. No weird gaps.
- Buttons on the side were covered but still easy to press. Clicky enough.
- The cutout for the charging port was big enough. Same for the speakers and the silent switch.
- Felt pretty good in my hand. Added a bit of grip, which is nice ’cause these phones are slippery little things.
Been using it for a few weeks now. It does what it’s supposed to do. It holds the phone. It protects the back and sides from scratches. It hasn’t yellowed or gotten weirdly sticky, though it does pick up a bit of lint from my pocket sometimes, but whatever, easy to wipe off. Haven’t had any major drops (knock on wood), but it feels like it would offer some protection, which is better than nothing.
It’s nothing special, really. Just a basic case for an old phone. But you know, sometimes the simple, practical things are the best. Keeps the old 7 Plus kicking along a bit longer. No need to spend a fortune when something basic does the job just fine. That’s my take on it, anyway. Just a straightforward piece of gear that works.
