So, the other day, I got this weird text message. It just said, “Are you home?” I was like, “Who is this?” Seriously, I had no clue who it was from, and it felt super creepy.
First thing I did? Absolutely nothing. I mean, my gut was screaming “SCAM!” You just don’t reply to random, sketchy stuff like that.
My Investigation Steps
Since I’m naturally curious (and a little paranoid), I decided to do some digging, playing a little detective work:
- Checked the Number: I didn’t recognize the number at all. It wasn’t saved in my contacts, and it didn’t look familiar from any recent calls.
- Googled It: Typed the number into Google, you know, just to see if anything popped up. Nothing. Total blank. That made me even more suspicious.
- Asked Around: I even texted a couple of my tech-savvy friends, showing them the message. They all agreed – it looked totally shady and they advised to not reply.
After all that, I was pretty convinced it was some kind of scam. I mean, who sends a random “Are you home?” text to a stranger? It felt like someone was trying to figure out if I was home or not, maybe to see if my place was empty. Seriously unsettling.
What I Did Next (The Important Part!)
Here’s what I ended up doing, and what I’d recommend to anyone else who gets a message like this:
- Blocked the Number: Gone. No more messages from that weirdo. Easy peasy.
- Deleted the Message: Didn’t need that negativity in my life. Out of sight, out of mind.
- Stayed Alert: I just kept an eye out for any other strange messages or calls, just in case it was part of some bigger scam.
Honestly, it’s always better to be safe than sorry with this kind of stuff. If a text message feels weird, trust your instincts. Don’t reply, don’t click any links, and just block the number. Your peace of mind is worth way more than satisfying some scammer’s curiosity.
